Mat Tippett's End of Season Report

2020/21 was an unforgettable season.

Back in March last year the Covid pandemic hit Victoria. As a club we made the best of a bad situation. Training long hours on the MT, swimming simulation with bands at home while the pools were closed, Zoom S&C sessions and running laps around the block during lockdown set us up for a successful season. Although group training was irregular due to restrictions, all the long solo training hours over the 2020 Winter is why we were so strong on race day each and every week.

Due to the pandemic, races regularly got cancelled or postponed but our athletes took it in their stride, continuing to adapt, train and be flexible. The local race season started later than usual which meant we had races every second week. It’s very taxing on the body and mind to have so many races in such a short period of time so backing it up each week was a challenge.

Congratulations and thank you to everyone who joined us throughout the season.

To the athletes, your dedication and motivation towards your training and racing is amazing. The results reflect all the work you have put in over the past year. Thank you to the coaches and support staff including physiotherapist Polly Dhar for all the time and effort you spend every week helping each athlete improve and develop. To all the families and friends, without your support we wouldn’t be able to train and race the way we do.
