Coach profile - Nick Wray

Name: Nick Wray

Nick Name: Raymond

D.O.B: 25 August 1969

Place of Birth: Adelaide

Academic Background: Master of Nutrition & Dietetics (Flinders University), Bachelor of Applied Science, Exercise & Sports Science (University of SA), Sports Dietitian Certificate (AIS/Sports Dietitians Australia), Graduate Diploma in Human Nutrition (Deakin University),

Professional Background: Have worked in private practice for 13 years and have 3 practices in Adelaide. Also have worked in major hospitals for 13 years and still work part time at Flinders Medical Centre in SA in Intensive Care and Liver Transplantation. Until end of 2007 season I worked as consultant dietitian to the Adelaide Football Club (Crows) for 12 seasons. Have also worked for the Australian Cricket Academy, Southern Redbacks, Australian Track Cycling team and SA Sports Institute as a consultant dietitian over the years.

Sporting background: Played Amateur League football until I was 30 and played Grade cricket until I was 34 - now 38 and too old to play sport ! I currently run approximately 8 Km 3-4 times/week but purely as a recreational activity.

Personal Goals: I love working with athletes as they are so motivated and generally take everything you tell them on board, so I want to continue seeing athletes from all sports to assist them improving their nutritional preparation for their particular goals.

Career accomplishments: I think I am the longest serving dietitian to work at one AFL club so this was an achievement in itself. I loved my time at Adelaide and the 2 grand final wins in 1997 & 1998 was certainly the highlight, being at the MCG and soaking up the atmosphere. I also was on the Board of Sports Dietitians Australia for 6 years and whilst this was a lot of work, I enjoyed the challenge and am glad to now see how SDA has continued to grow and survive.

Interests: AFL Football I love, cricket, soccer, athletics, in fact I love watching just about any sport. I still enjoy going to Crows games and my local club Sturt, and I also have an interest in property development.
